Nepal is situated north of India in the Himalayas and has some of the world’s highest mountains including Mt. Everest (8,848 m). Nepal can be divided into three ecological zones: the lowland, the midland, and the highland. The mountain region accounts for about 64 percent of total land area. China and India are the two countries that border Nepal.
